You are invited to celebrate WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY

Gainesville, Florida 2017

Featured Speaker
Rebecca Nagy, Ph.D.
Director, Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art University of Florida

Date: Saturday, 26 August 2017, 11:30 a.m. Best Western Gateway Grand
4200 NW 97th Blvd. Gainesville, Florida

2017 Recipient of Friends of Susan B. Anthony Award Kathy Kidder
for her work as past president
and current membership chair of the Alachua County League of Women Voters

Dr. Nagy’s Talk, “Commanding Center Stage: Women in American Art Museums Today” will reflect on her 35- year career in art museums, as she considers what progress has been made since art historian Linda Nochlin published her seminal essay “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” in Art News in 1971. Learn about the current status of women as directors in our nation’s leading art museums and about the representation of women artists in their collections. A special focus will be the collections and exhibitions of our own Harn Museum of Art, which recently mounted the exhibition “Intra-Action: Women Artists from the Harn Collection” featuring more than 80 works by 36 contemporary artists—all women!
