TO: Friends of Susan B. Anthony organization members, past co-sponsors, and new friends:

We have engaged the Wyndham Hotel 2900 SW 13th Street for the annual Friends of Susan B. Anthony luncheon on Saturday August 25th. This is our preliminary notification and request for co-sponsor funds to help with the necessary arrangements. The luncheon cost per person is $25 and $10 for those under 18, tax and gratuity included.

Our honoree this year is Dr. Gwendolyn Zoharah Simmons, Senior Lecturer in African and American and Islamic Studies, University of Florida, a long-time civil rights activist and early organizer and participant in the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) as well as international human rights and peace.

Dr. Lynn Leverty, Assistant Director, Academic Programs, Bob Graham Center for Public Service, will be our speaker. Her talk, “Women on the Run: Changing the Face of Elected Office,” will address the much discussed phenomenon of record numbers of women running for elected office this fall, and its significance, on both the national and local level.

We hope that your organization is interested in being one of the co-sponsors of this activity and that you will support us with a minimum donation of $30, but more if your organization can manage it. Your support allows us to pay for guests’ luncheons, including our sponsored Girls State attendees, printing, postage, AV equipment rental if needed, favors, table decorations and any expenses for the speaker. If you want to put up a public relations display for your organization, this co-sponsorship entitles you to do so. There is room for 20 displays. Print, fill out and mail page 2 of this message to document your co-sponsorship. The displays are very popular with attendees and enhance the networking aspect of the occasion.

Please share this announcement of speaker and honoree with your members, especially those who do not have email. The official invitation and reservation form will be sent on July 15 by email, and snail mail to those who are on our mailing list from previous attendance. We’ll depend on you to pass the word to those for whom we have no address. The invitations will also be available at that time for pick-up at Alachua County Library District branches.

The last day for inclusion of your organization’s name in the program is August 20th but we hope to hear from you sooner so that we can bank your donation. Print out page 2 and use that form to include with your check. We are grateful to the organizations that have already put this expense in their regular budget to facilitate the donation process each year. We expect to be around a long time.
